Differences in the platform

The Volvo Xc60 is assembled on the reputable P3 platform. On the other hand, the Volvo Xc90 is the first vehicle in the Volvo line-up that is constructed on the Scalable Product Architecture platform. Volvo executives claim that the new platform “enables significant improvements when it comes to offering protection in worst-case scenarios and when creating innovative features that support the driver in avoiding accidents.” The new platform also offers much more exterior and interior design possibilities and better performance in terms of power and fuel efficiency.

Differences in the performance

The Volvo XC60’s base engine is the T5. It is a 240-horsepower turbocharged motor, while the more powerful T6 makes 302 horsepower. On the other hand, the 2015 Volvo XC90 is available as a two-liter, four-cylinder engine, in either diesel (225 horsepower D5) or petrol (320 horsepower T6) variations.

The competitors

Competitors of the Volvo XC60 include the Volvo XC 70, the Honda CR-V and the Honda Odyssey EX. On the other hand, the Volvo XC90’s rivals include, apart from the Volvo XC60 itself and the Volvo XC 70, BMW’s X5 xDrive 35i and the X3 xDrive28i.
